Ernest Edwin Joines

Ernest Edwin Joines, age 84 of Sparta, died Tuesday evening, June 21, 2016 at his home. He was born in Alleghany County on June 22, 1931 to the late Robert Arthur and Elizabeth “Lizzie” Church Joines. He was also preceded in death by a brother, John Everett Joines and a sister, Rose Joines Mabe. Ernest was a multi-talented musician, song writer and business man. He was featured on the television program, “I’ve got a secret” staring Gary Moore in the 1960’s. It featured Ernest playing multiple instruments at the same time. He was an unassuming and non-pretentious man of faith and he now is in the presence of his Heavenly Father. He is survived by his wife, Agnes Estep Joines of the home; two sons, Ernie Joines of Augusta, Georgia, Terry and Sharon Joines of Sparta; three grandchildren, Holly Russ of Valdese, Lori Edwards of Galax, Virginia and Morgan Leigh Eisenhauer of Austin, Texas.; four great-grandchildren, Vince Edwards, Oliver Edwin Edwards, Nolan and Avery Russ; several nieces and nephews also survive.The family request the honor of your presence at the funeral service to honor the life of Ernest at 2:00 p.m. Friday, June 24, 2016, in the Chapel of Grandview Memorial Funeral Home with Reverend Ralph Smith, Chaplain David Adams and Harold Church officiating. Interment will follow in the Antioch Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery in the Stratford community of Sparta. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Thursday evening at the funeral home and at other times at the residence.
