Alice Washington

August 7, 1945 - May 3, 2018

Alice Simpson Washington, age 72 of 3406 Hwy 21 N, Sparta, NC passed away Thursday, May 3, 2018 at Sentara Nursing Home in Barco, NC. She was born August 7, 1945 in Alleghany County to the late Albert and Cynthia Finley Simpson. In addition to her parents she was also preceded in death by five brothers, Dillard Simpson, Frank Simpson, Lewis Simpson, John Mack Simpson, James Simpson; two sisters, Eva Sue McMillian and Ella Phipps. Alice was a very loving and giving lady. She was active in the community always sharing scripture and testifying what God had done for her in her life. Alice was a huge advocate for the youth of Alleghany. She spent several years chaperoning the youth on the weekends at the Crouse House. She became a mom to hundreds of children of Alleghany during that time. You could always count on Alice to do what she said she would do. She was a giver, and her joy came from helping friends and family many times without anyone having to ask for help. When Alice was diagnosed with cancer she never complained and always kept her faith in the Lord until the very end. While she was a giver and loved helping people she kept her health issues private to protect her loved ones, and to make sure she was not a burden on anyone. Alice will be missed, and the work she did in the name of the Lord will not be forgotten. She is survived by one daughter, Angelia Washington McNeil of Raleigh; two sons, Dwayne Washington and wife Sarah of Kansas City, MO, John Washington of Chesapeake, VA; six grandchildren, Julian McNeil, Josh McNeil, Autumn Washington, Chloe Washington, Zoe Washington, Colton Washington; three brothers, Jerry Simpson of Canton, OH, Charles Simpson and wife Kate of Salem, VA, Larry Simpson of Roanoke, VA; one sister, Marie Simpson of Winston-Salem; several nieces and nephews also survive. The family requests the honor of your presence at the funeral service to honor the life of Alice at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 9, 2018 in the chapel of Grandview Memorial Funeral Home with Reverend Chauncey Robinson and Reverend Roosevelt Carlton officiating. Interment will follow in the White Plains Baptist Church Cemetery in the Twin Oaks community. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the funeral service at the funeral home.
