Catherine Johnson Brooks

Catherine Johnson Brooks, age 96 of 111 Bailey Road, Ennice, NC passed away Tuesday, April 10, 2018 at Grayson Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Independence, VA. She was born October 26, 1921 in Grayson County, Virginia to the late J. Roy and Mable C. Bourne Johnson. In addition to her parents she was also preceded in death by her husband, Harvey G. Brooks; one brother, Harold E. Johnson; one sister, Gladys J. Higgins. Catherine married Harvey G. Brooks on February 18, 1955. She enjoyed cooking, gardening, sewing and quilting. She also made lye soap and potholders that she sold at the Rooftop of Virginia in Galax, VA for many years. She enjoyed hunting four leaf clovers and had a large collection of them. She is survived by two sisters, Jean L. Rock of Morgantown, PA, Rosemary Johnson of the home; several nieces and nephews also survive. The family requests the honor of your presence at the graveside service to honor the life of Catherine at 2:00 p.m. Friday, April 13, 2018 at Zion Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery with Brother Hugh Miller officiating. The family will receive friends from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home and other times at the residence.
