Dr. G. Terry Johnson, age 82, passed away at his home in Sparta, surrounded by his loving family on Monday, June 14, 2021. He was born on April 17, 1939 in Elkin, NC to the late Walter Presley Johnson and Carolyn Maxwell Johnson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Martha Johnson; one brother, Johnny Johnson. He went to Wake Forest University and then graduated with his doctorate of dental surgery at the UNC School of Dentistry in Chapel Hill. He practiced dentistry in Sparta for 52 years and was also a devout Christian, an avid scholar, historian, and farmer, and dedicated his life to the fulfillment of principles of altruism and integrity. He was warm, driven, methodical, and passionate about every aspect of life; and he believed there was no place closer to heaven than the Blue Ridge Mountains he called home. He had the best handshake: he brought you home in a simple grasp of his hand, a glance from his face; he gave you a feeling that you were known, you were welcome, your life was understood, and you were alive and your life worth the telling. He is survived by his beloved friend, Patricia Andrews; sister, Linda Hall of Denver, CO; sons, Zachary Johnson and Dr. Samuel Johnson and his wife Dr. Kathryn Johnson of Sparta; his grandson, Cooper Johnson; niece, Shyela Marquet of Aurora, CO; nephew, John Hall of Aurora, CO; several cousins, grandnieces and nephew also survive. The family requests your presence at the funeral service to honor the life of Terry at 2:00 p.m. Friday, June 18, 2021 at First Baptist Church in Sparta with Pastor John Attaway officiating. Interment will follow at Sparta Cemetery. There will be no formal visitation at the church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 1901 Brunswick Ave. #100, Charlotte, NC 28207, or to Alleghany Lives, PO Box 1831, Sparta, NC 28675. I am so sorry to hear of Terry's passing. I had the pleasure of knowing him for 30 years. He was one of the nicest people I have ever known. I am thankful for the opportunity to have known him. He will be missed. Sam, Zach and all of the family will be in my thoughts and prayers.

I was so sorry to read of you loss. Terry was the wonderful man that the obituary saluted! We went to school together and were friends with him being one year older. My Mom, Ruth Fender, thought so much of him through the Baptist Church and being her dentist for many years! My prayers are with you and send to you my deepest sympathy!
Sincerely,
Clayta Fender Bryant
My love and sympathy to the whole family in the loss of Dr. Terry. Cleo and I were blessed not only to have the best dentist in the world but as an added bonus to have such a good friend for many years. The last time I saw him was when he came by the house to give me a pottery coffee mug that Zack had made for me. Later when I was not home he came by to leave two books in my mailbox that he had discussed via phone that he thought I would enjoy reading. This was typical of the thoughtfulness that made me him so well loved. It is a special heartache to see the photos of his precious grandson that he will miss seeing him grow up. I will keep the whole family in my prayers and give thanks for all that this good man did that will live on in our hearts..
