Ellen Hardin Church, age 89 of 445 Pleasant Home Drive, Sparta, NC passed away Friday, October 27, 2017 at Grayson Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Independence, VA. She was born October 21, 1928 in Alleghany County to the late Dr. Jay Hardin and Georgia Lee Corpening Hardin. In addition to her parents she was also preceded in death by one brother, William O. “Bill” Hardin. Ellen loved life and music to its fullest. She enjoyed sharing her music and talent with people of all ages. She will be greatly missed by family and friends. She is survived by her husband, Paul Edgar Church, Jr., of Sparta; one son, Robbie Church and wife Susan of Fuquay-Varina; two daughters, Kathy Tart and husband Rodney of Lillington, Paula C. Presnell and partner Walt Martin of Sparta; five grandchildren, Amanda C. Stephenson and husband Vance of Mt. Pleasant, SC, Robbie Presnell, III and wife Leslie of Hayden, ID, Travis Richey and wife Alex of Elizabeth City, Emily Richey of Greeneville, Robbie Church of Atlanta, GA; two great-grandchildren, Matthew Richey and Fisher Stephenson; one brother, James Hardin of Midland; several nieces also survive. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. Sunday, October 29, 2017 in the chapel of Grandview Memorial Funeral Home. The family will hold a private memorial service at a later date. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Alleghany County Educational Foundation, Ellen Church Scholarship Fund for Music, PO Box 33, Sparta, NC 28675.
