Elsie Musgrove Sutphin

Elsie Musgrove Sutphin, age 86, of Sparta NC, passed away peacefully at Gordon Hospice House in Statesville, NC on Wednesday, June 12, 2013. She was born July 7, 1926 in Maryland to the late Lonnie and Nonnie Halsey Musgrove. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by husbands, Franklin Ross and John (Red) Sutphin; two sons, David Ross and Michael Sutphin; four brothers, Robert, Howard, Cameron, and Jerry Musgrove; two sisters, Edna Spencer and Hazel Musgrove. Elsie (Mammaw) was a loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. Survivors include her son, Johnnie Sutphin and his wife Samantha of Troutman; three grandchildren, Sherrie Bulkley and her husband Mike of Statesville, Denise Ross of Tobaccoville, and Kaitlyn Sutphin of Troutman; two step granddaughters, Ashley and Gabrielle McKeithan of Troutman; four great-grandchildren, Anthony, Tyler, Jordan, and EJ; one sister, Mary Roberts and her husband Jack of Galax, VA; one daughter-in-law, Sylvia Ross of Tobaccoville; several nieces, nephews, and cousins also survive. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, June 15, 2013 at Grandview Memorial Chapel with Pastor Walter Wagner and Pastor Larry Duffer of Southview Baptist Church in Statesville. Burial will follow at Mt. Carmel Union Baptist Church Cemetery in the Turkey Knob community of Sparta. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
