George Lewis Upchurch

George Lewis Upchurch, age 75 of 10004 NC Hwy 18 South, Laurel Springs, NC died Thursday September 25, 2014 at his residence. He was born April 27, 1939 in Laurel Springs to the late George Thomas and Victoria Wyatt Upchurch. In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by three brothers, Hoke, Bryan and Buddy Upchurch; three sisters, Jean Upchurch Bare, Pearl Upchurch Caudill, Betty Upchurch Miller. He grew up in Laurel Springs, one of eight brothers and sisters. He married Bettie Evans Upchurch and they celebrated 52 years of marriage as of February 26th. Lewis retired from Tyson Farms after 37 years of service, and was also a cattle farmer and a Christmas tree grower. He was on the Soil and Water Conservation Board and previously served on the Alleghany County Christmas Tree Association. He was a founding member of the Laurel Springs Volunteer Fire Department and also a member of Pine Fork Baptist Church. Lewis enjoyed life by working on his farm, spending time with his family and riding his Honda Goldwing. He is survived by his loving wife, Bettie Upchurch of the home; two daughters, Beverly Upchurch Reeves and husband Mike of Millers Creek, Pam Upchurch of Sparta; one son, Bobby Upchurch and wife Stephanie of Mooresville; seven grandchildren, Heath Billings, Trent Reeves both of Millers Creek, Heather Moss Ray and husband Jeff of Ennice, Colin Moss of Greenville, Evan Upchurch, Bailey Upchurch and Blake Upchurch all of Mooresville; one sister, Reba Miller and husband Dwayne of N. Wilkesboro; brother-in-law, Dick Miller of TN; sister-in-law and spouse, Phyllis and Tommy Dowell of Sparta. The family requests the honor of your presence at the funeral service to celebrate the life of Mr. Upchurch at 4:00 pm on Sunday, September 28, 2014 at Pine Fork Baptist Church in Laurel Springs. Interment will follow in Laurel Springs Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Saturday evening at the funeral home and other times at the residence.
