Hazel Vaughan Cleary, age 101 of Ennice, NC 28623 passed away Tuesday, October 10, 2023 at Alleghany Health. She was born April 20, 1922 in Alleghany County to the late James Robert and Maudie Murphy Vaughan. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 56 years Connie Monroe Cleary; infant daughter; four brothers, John Vaughan, George Vaughan, Paul Vaughan, Rudy Vaughan; one infant grandson; one step grandson; one step great-grandson; five sisters, Pearl Coleman, Marie Lowe, Mae Vaughan, Hattie Bedsaul, and Cleo Swicegood. She was a member of Little Pine Covenant Brethren Church since 1940. She enjoyed spending time outside, sports, exercising, crocheting and biking. She is survived by two sons, Bob D. Cleary and wife Suzee of Lewisville, Claude D. Cleary and wife Elizabeth of Ennice; one daughter, Betty Shaw and husband Marvin of Glade Valley; six grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and friends also survive. The family requests the honor of your presence at the funeral service to honor the life of Hazel at 2:00 p.m. Friday, October 13, 2023 at Little Pine Covenant Brethren Church with Reverend Eddie Wooten officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Little Pine Cemetery Fund, c/o Bobby Gillespie, PO Box 34, Ennice, NC 28623. The family would like to extend a big “Thank you” to the staff of Alleghany Memorial Hospital for the wonderful care they gave to Mom and all who visited her.
