Junior Leo Waddell, age 81 of 624 Grandview Drive, Sparta, NC died Friday, April 4, 2014 at Genesis Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center in Sparta. Junior was born May 17, 1932 in Wilkes County to the late Mack and Eva Mae Sparks Waddell. In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by his wife, Annie Marie Combs Waddell; one brother, Robert Waddell; one sister, Maxine Bobbitt. He is survived by one son, Ricky Waddell and wife Judy of Sparta; one daughter, Connie Fortner and husband Lee of Sparta; three grandchildren, Marshall Waddell and wife Crystal of N. Platte, NE, Case Waddell and wife Loni of Omaha, NE, Shira Fortner of Sparta; two step-grandchildren, Scotty Turner and wife Crystal of Sparta, Heather Nichols and husband Shannon of Woodlawn, VA; eleven great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; three brothers, Jim Waddell and wife Shirley of Elizabeth City, Bryce Waddell and wife Carol of Laurel Springs, Wade Waddell and wife Charlotte of Kernersville; one brother-in-law, Bill Combs and wife Wilma of Laurel Springs; one sister-in-law, Rosa Lee Marlowe and husband Luther of Sparta; special nephew, Kenneth Waddell and wife Lily of Thurmond; special friend, Tony Warnke of Sparta; several nieces, nephews, and other family members also survive. The family request the honor of your presence at the funeral service to celebrate the life of Junior at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 8, 2014 in the chapel of Grandview Memorial Funeral Home with Sparta Masonic Lodge #423 and Bruce Wayne Osborne VFW Post #7034 conducting the service. Internment will follow at Nichols Family Cemetery in Sparta with full military rites conducted by Bruce Wayne Osborne VFW Post #7034. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Monday evening at the funeral home and other times at the homes of Ricky and Judy Waddell, 500 Grandview Drive, Sparta, NC 28675 or Connie Fortner, Pine Ridge Apts. #55, Sparta, NC 28675.
