July 22, 1923 - January 30, 2020
Lillian Colmar Rollins Bloodworth, 96, of Sparta, N.C., passed away January 30, 2020, while visiting family in Montgomery, Alabama. She was born July 22, 1923, on her brother, Gaston’s 17th birthday, to the late Thomas Gaston and Lena Lasater Rollins in Wake County, N. C. After graduating from Durham High School, she received her Nurses degree from Watts School of Nursing, Durham, in 1945. As a Registered Nurse, she practiced in Columbus, Ohio, and at Duke Hospital, Durham, N.C., in the premature nursery. Later, after devoting time to family, she coordinated private duty nurse services through the Durham Professional Nurses Registry. Lillian married Marion Lee Bloodworth on July 29, 1950. They were blessed to celebrate 50 years of marriage in 2000, prior to his death in October of that year. Together, they raised four children: Susan Bloodworth Bobbitt (Ron), Houston, Texas; Marion Lee Bloodworth Jr. (Eliana), Montgomery, Alabama; Kayla Bloodworth Hudson (Mark), Sylva, N.C.; and Paul Vincent Bloodworth (Liz), Durham, N.C. She was also survived by three grandchildren; one sister, Nancy R. Wilson (Hubert), Charlotte, N.C.; numerous nieces and nephews; and three very special friends, Ann and Sam Foster, Sparta, N.C.; and Anne Preslar, Durham, N. C. In addition to her parents, and husband, she was predeceased by five siblings: T. Gaston Rollins (Margaret), Lois R. Smith (Charles), Philip P. Rollins (Margaret), Catharine R. Vick (Robert), and James E. Rollins (Louise). Two additional siblings, Paul, and Gertrude Rollins, died in early childhood. Lillian was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin, friend, nurse, but most of all, she was a child of God. Since its founding, Lillian was an active member of Grace Community Church in Sparta. She always looked forward to the ladies Tuesday Bible study. Her strong faith and positive disposition reflected a true inner strength which was a source of encouragement to those who knew her. The family would like to extend a very special thanks to Ann and Sam Foster, along with others in the Grace Church family, who always offered assistance when needed. Lillian and Marion moved to Sparta in 1991, quickly embracing the people and the scenery. As an accomplished seamstress, Lillian enjoyed her membership in the Alleghany Quilters Guild. With a heart for missions, she volunteered with the Carolyn Ebright Prayer Shawl Ministry at First Presbyterian Church to knit shawls for the community. We thank God for the gift of her life, and the blessing of the time we spent with her. We will always remain profoundly grateful for her care, love, and memories which have enriched our lives through the years. A celebration of life service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 21, 2022, at Grace Community Church, with visitation one hour prior to the service. Pastor Joel Stamper, and Pastor Lee Bloodworth will officiate, followed by interment at Sparta Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Grace Community Church, 342 Macedonia Church Road, or to the Alleghany Pregnancy Care Center, 255 Maple Street, Sparta, N. C. 28675. Grandview Memorial Funeral Home is assisting the family.
