Minnie Brooks

July 29, 1933 - July 15, 2018

Minnie Evans Brooks, age 84 of 1995 Mtn. View Road, Glade Valley, NC passed away Sunday, July 15, 2018 at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem, NC. She was born July 29, 1933 in Grayson County to the late Elder Curtis and Callie Coleman Evans. In addition to her parents she was also preceded in death by her husband, Paul Samuel Brooks; one grandson, Donnie Samuel Maines; three brothers, Dwight Evans, Billy Joe Evans, Earl Evans; one sister, Betty Walker. She was an auxiliary member of Bruce Wayne Osborne VFW Post #7034 for many years. Minnie was a faithful member of Big Springs Baptist Church. She is survived by four children, Rocky Brooks and wife Peggy of Dobson, Vickey Todd and husband Thomas “Catfish” of Sparta, Ricky Brooks and wife Vickie of Glade Valley, Terry Maines and husband George of Glade Valley; six grandchildren, Jamie Brooks and wife Fran of Yadkinville, Dawn Sutphin and husband Bernie of Pilot Mtn., Jeanna Drake and husband William of Durham, Kelly Maines of Ronda, Chris Brooks of Glade Valley, Colby Brooks of Glade Valley; one step-granddaughter, Amy Chilton-Haynes and husband Nate of Asheville; two step-grandsons, Brad Todd and Tom Todd both of Sparta; eight great-grandchildren, Elle Sutphin, Charlie Sutphin, Dillon Sutphin, MaKayla Brooks, Layla Ross, George Drake, Samuel Drake, Rose Drake; one step-great-grandchild, Courtney Sadler; four brothers, Jack Evans and wife Maxine of Glade Valley, Jim Evans and wife Faye of Glade Valley, Gene Evans and wife Janice of Glade Valley, Ralph Evans and wife Ramona of Sevierville, TN; three sisters, Emma Surgeon of Lincolnton, June Vestal and husband Will of Sparta, Margaret Cochran and husband Calvin of Dobson; one brother-in-law, Terry Walker of Glade Valley; several nieces and nephews also survive. The family requests the honor of your presence at the funeral service to honor the life of Minnie at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, July 19, 2018 in the chapel of Grandview Memorial Funeral Home with Elder Doug Hawks, Elder Greg Hawks, Elder Buddy Bare officiating. Interment will follow in Laurel Glen Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Wednesday evening at the funeral home and other times at the residence.
