Opal Jean Caudill Edwards, age 84, of 142 Hawthorne Street, Sparta, NC died Sunday, March 17, 2013 at Alleghany Memorial Hospital in Sparta. She was born on February 4, 1929 in Wilkes County to the late Quincy and Maude Billings Caudill. In addition to her parents she was also preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Ralph Edwards; one sister, Verna Perry; two brothers, Boyd Caudill and Claude “Dinkey” Caudill. She is survived by two daughters, Susan Edwards of Milwaukee, WI and partner David Bixby of Phoenix, AZ, Hattie Caudill and friend Robert Creed both of Sparta; one son, Tommy Edwards and wife Barbara of Laurel Springs; three grandchildren, Christopher Edwards and wife Kim of Cary, Timothy Edwards and wife Beth of Charlotte, Donnie Blevins and wife Melanie of Sparta; three great-grandchildren; one brother, Paul Caudill of Sparta; special caregiver, Betty Bennett of Sparta; several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, March 20, 2013 at the Grandview Memorial Chapel with Rev. Robert McLean and Rev. Frank Dixon officiating. Burial will follow in the Union Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery in the Whitehead Community of Sparta. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Tuesday evening at the funeral home. Grandview Memorial Funeral Home in Sparta is serving the Edwards family.Read Obituary
