Trooper George “Chip” Earl Haydt, Jr., age 58 of 3354 Piney Post Office Road, Piney Creek, NC passed away Wednesday, July 6, 2022 at his residence. He was born September 20, 1963 in Duval County, FL to George Earl Haydt, Sr., and the late Tobotha Taylor Haydt. Chip took great pleasure in Bird Hunting, Ruffed Grouse in the Mountains and Ring Necked Pheasants in South Dakota with his Dad, Brother and Son. Following in both his Mother and Father’s footsteps Master Trooper George E. Haydt, Jr. (Chip) began his career in 1986 in Public Service. He started with the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office in Charlotte, NC as a Deputy Sheriff. In 1990 he went to work for the city of Matthews, NC where he was a shift supervisor. In 1995 he had the opportunity to work for the Great State of NC with the NCDMV Enforcement Section. In January 2003 when the NCDMV and MCSHP merged he started the final chapter of his career by completing the 5th Transitional School for the State Highway Patrol. He was sworn in as a NC State Master Trooper after completing that class in 2005. He always said how proud he felt seeing the look on his parent’s faces when he took the Oath of Office as a Trooper. He transferred from Charlotte to Wilkesboro in 2006 to be closer to home and help his father care for his mother. In 2018 he Honorable retired after 32 year career earning several Federal Certifications and several service awards which included the Advanced Law Enforcement Certification. Close, special and dear work friends who was always there for me included: Master Troopers W. E. (Eddie) Hall, J.D. (Joe) Berrong, Jason Gooch, Josh Crane, J.L. (Lance) Wilson, Allen (AJ) Johnson, Shaun Hurley and Chuck Miller. He is survived by his loving wife, Michelle Anders Haydt of the home; three children, Jeremy Haydt and Ryan Haydt; three stepchildren, Matthew Holt, Michael Owens and Chelsea Dowell; three grandchildren, which he cherished, Toby Haydt, Tucker Haydt and Tallie Haydt; father, George Haydt, Sr. and wife Paula; one sister, Rhonda Sharpe and husband Scott; one brother, Wayne Haydt and wife Kim; special friend, Taylor Leonard; several nieces and nephews also survive. The family requests the honor of your presence at the Celebration of Life Service to honor the life of Chip at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, July 10, 2022 in the chapel of Grandview Memorial Funeral Home with Pastor Dale Austin officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
